Roberto Fonseca
Roberto Fonseca is an explosive pianist who combines the traditional rhythms of his native Cuba with American jazz, European classical music and Afro-Cuban fusions. A protégé of the legendary Jesús “Chucho” Valdés (Fonseca’s mother was married to Valdés), Fonseca first came to prominence in 1999. In 2001, he began a collaboration with members of the Buena Vista Social Club, which has led to hundreds of performances all around the world. He worked for many years with the late singer Ibrahim Ferrer, and he continues to tour with the singer Omara Portuondo – both known for their work with Buena Vista.
He has numerous recordings under his own name as a bandleader, and an extensive discography as a collaborator.
