World Music Project “Maktoub”

Life is a Journey

Join us on our musical journey from Andalusia to Morocco to ancient Mesopotamia.
This project beautifully illustrates the ability of people from different cultures to come together and harmonize without barriers or prejudices.
And it is through this harmony that our eyes are opened and we learn to respect the beauty of this world.

Abdou Day – RAGGAE MUSIC

Abdou Day is originally from Madagascar, an island in the Indian Ocean located in South-East Africa. Always interested in music, in 1985 he met Jimmy Cliff, who encouraged him to pursue a career. He started out singing backgrounds in various bands. At a Marley Tribute Festival in the city of Colmar, France, he met Pato Banton (a reggae singer from Birmingham, England), and some members of Bob Marley’s family. They all felt he had something worth continuing. He sings in Malagasy (the native language of Madagascar), and French and English.

His first album “Mister Babylon” (1998) was self-produced and sold about 5,500 copies.

In 2002, he recorded his second album “Libre” (Free) in Luxembourg and Paris. He also self-produced that one. It sold about 4,500 copies in the first year. In 2005, it was released on jamendo.com as a Creative Commons album, and has (by June of 2008) received about 12,000 downloads.
